Statement of Intent for Geography
To develop children’s understanding of Geography, inspiring their curiosity about the world around them. For children to gain confidence and practical experiences of geographical knowledge.
In Geography, we teach at least the expectations of the EYFS Framework using Development Matters guidance and the Key Stage 1 & 2 National Curriculum Programmes of Study.
Below you will find an overview of what your child will be expected to learn in each of the Key Stages.
Curriculum design for Geography:
The design of our Geography curriculum is supported by the Cornerstones resources and is taught within topic lessons. As the children progress through the school, we teach a layering of knowledge and skills for Geography, mainly through cross-curricular topics. Although some skills may be taught discretely, this means that Geography is not taught in isolation, and wherever appropriate it is linked to other areas of the curriculum, giving children the opportunities to develop and reinforce knowledge and skills already established in context.
Curriculum Choices for Geography:
- Whole school days that focus on Geography are periodically organised and have included special days such as Around the World Day.
